Hyundai Mufasa: A Feature-Packed SUV Under ₹18 Lakh?
Today, we’re diving into a new and beautiful product from Hyundai – the Hyundai Mufasa. The name itself is quite captivating, and this car is as beautiful as its name suggests!
What personally impressed me the most about this vehicle is its price, which starts from ₹15 lakh and goes up to ₹18 lakh. Believe me, the features and design you get in the Mufasa at this price point are unmatched, especially in India. So, without further ado, let’s explore what Hyundai is offering in the international market and its plans for bringing it to India.
Exterior Design: Where Style Meets Functionality
When you first lay eyes on the Mufasa, its design will instantly grab your attention.
- Sharp Fin Antenna and Roof Rails: Up top, you get a sharp fin antenna and stylish roof rails, giving the car a sporty look.
- Big Spoiler and LED Tail Lamps: Towards the rear, a large spoiler and a defogger are featured. The Hyundai badging looks quite smart. The LED tail lamps have a unique pattern – these connected tail lamps illuminate across the width, offering an incredibly “next-level” appeal.
- Lower Bumper and Parking Sensors: The lower bumper design is quite distinct and premium, something you won’t commonly find in many cars. The parking sensors are cleverly integrated here.
- Reverse Camera and Boot Space: The reverse camera is placed just above the number plate. As for the boot, you get a power tailgate and ample boot space. This is a five-seater vehicle, featuring some additional storage underneath and a temporary spare tire.
- Side Profile and Alloy Wheels: From the side, the car looks incredibly smart, with its main highlight being the 18-inch alloy wheels. Hyundai also offers a 19-inch option, which comes in an all-black finish and looks extremely classy.
- Matte Finish Blue Colour: The car showcased was in a matte finish blue colour, lending it a very sophisticated appearance.
- Fuel Tank and Mileage: The fuel tank is located on the driver’s side and has a capacity of 54 litres. Hyundai claims a mileage of 17-18 kmpl, which is quite good for this segment.
Interior: Every Corner Exudes Premiumness
If the exterior design is impressive, the Mufasa’s interior is even more mind-blowing.
- Stunning Off-White Interior: In contrast to the exterior’s matte finish, the off-white/cream colored interior looks stunning. The seats are very comfortable, cushioned, and made of high-quality leather.
- Ample Space: There’s no shortage of knee-room and headroom; you have plenty of space.
- AC Vents and Charging Ports: The AC vents have a sports car-like design with red accents. Below them, you’ll find two Type-C ports and a small storage area.
- Door Handles and Storage: The door handles are stylish and offer a good grip. A small button reveals a hidden storage compartment, which I found unique. Window controls and speakers are also located here.
- Centre Console and Hand Rest: In the centre, within the hand rest, there are twin cup holders, allowing you to fully enjoy your trips.
- Seat Adjustment: For adjusting the rear seats, there’s a rope-like pull, which even has the car’s name inscribed on it. The reclining angle of the seats is also quite generous.
- Passenger Side Accessories: Towards the front, there’s a provision for mounting a tablet or similar device for the passenger. And if you need to fold the seats down completely, a simple pull does the trick.
Technology and Features: Prepare to Be Amazed
The Mufasa has truly delighted me with its features.
- Integrated Screen: It boasts a large integrated screen that combines both the infotainment and instrument cluster. It looks very smart, has excellent resolution, and is a fully digital display.
- Advanced AC Vents: The design of the air vents is also very smart – blue on the outside and red on the inside, giving it a distinctive look.
- Touch Panel and Wireless Charger: Just below that, there’s a full touch panel for media controls and the AC unit, featuring automatic climate control. Below this, you’ll find space for a wireless charger, along with a 12V charging socket, USB port, and Type-C port.
- Gear Lever and Drive Modes: There’s a very smart gear lever, which comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
- Seat Ventilation and Parking Brake: Both driver and passenger get seat heating options (no cooling). It also features an electric parking brake and an auto-hold function.
- Additional Storage: The hand rest offers good storage, though no charging port is provided inside. There’s another small storage compartment on the dashboard and a decent-sized glove box.
- Premium Dashboard Profile: The upper part of the dashboard appears fabric-like but is actually made of leather with a fabric-like finish. The design of the AC vents is also very unique, adding a lively touch to the car’s interior.
- Door Panels and Controls: The passenger and driver side door panels have slightly different designs. You get all four power windows, ORVM controls, cup/bottle holders, speakers, and tweeters. The silver strip looks incredibly elegant, and the door panels feature a mix of soft-touch leather and plastic.
- Drive Modes and Traction Control: Drive modes include Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Smart Mode.
- Bluelink Connectivity: The infotainment system also offers Bluelink connectivity, and its touch response is incredibly smooth.
- Lack of ADAS: Yes, this car does not offer ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), but considering its price point, it’s not something one would necessarily expect. Nevertheless, all other aspects have been very well taken care of.
- Panoramic Sunroof: Up top, you get a panoramic sunroof, which is also very smooth to operate. Driving with it open offers a completely different feel!
Engine and Performance: A Blend of Power and Efficiency
Regarding the engine, the Hyundai Mufasa features:
- 2.0-litre Petrol Engine: It comes with a 2.0-litre petrol engine.
- Power and Torque: This engine generates 160 horsepower and 193 Newton-meters of torque.
- Insulation: Proper insulation is provided in the engine bay, which helps reduce cabin noise. However, it does not come with a hydraulic opening, so you’ll have to manually lift the hood.
Safety: No Compromises
In terms of safety, Hyundai has left no stone unturned with the Mufasa:
- Six Airbags: It offers six airbags.
- Disc Brakes: Both front and rear wheels are equipped with disc brakes.
- Safety Features: All essential safety features like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) are present.
- Traction Control and Hill Descent: You also get traction control and hill descent control.
- Build Quality: The car’s build quality is also very robust, making it a reliable choice in terms of safety.
